An initiative pioneered by heating technology manufacturer the Vaillant Group to reduce energy and packaging waste at the company’s Derbyshire plant has seen it win the Sustainable Manufacturing Award 2013.

The national EEF/ENER-G Sustainable Manufacturing Award was presented to Vaillant Group at the EEF Future Manufacturing Awards for its S.E.E.D.S (Sustainability in Environment, Employees, Development & Products and Society) programme. The plant now manufactures every boiler using less energy and water and creating less waste and carbon emissions than ever before. The plant has been Landfill ZERO since 2011.

The award recognises manufacturers that have undertaken initiatives to improve sustainability, innovate new processes, and improve corporate social responsibility.

Vaillant Group was initially recognised as Derbyshire’s most sustainable plant in winning the regional EEF/ENERG-F Sustainable Manufacturing Award, and went on to compete against regional winners across the UK in the national finals, which took place on Thursday 30th January 2014 in London.

The Vaillant Group, which is parent company for both the Vaillant and Glow-worm brands, and has been introducing pioneering heating technology into the market for 140 years, is also currently celebrating a record-breaking month in which the Belper plant manufactured more boilers than ever before.
